…I wake up Sunday morning and my wife is sitting on the edge of the bed, phone in hand, checking her Facebook and Twitter feeds (link to our facebook and twitter pages.)
I look over at her and ask,”Is there anything new and exciting to report from the world of Facebook land?”
She chuckles a bit and replies,
“Tina K. Great work out, I feel the burn. Woot”
I just stare at her blankly. She knows what I’m thinking. Then at the same time we both let out a loud
“WOOT”
and laugh our butt’s off together.
WOOT? Who actually says that?
Once our laughter dies down, she put her phone away and asks me,
“What are your plans for the day”?
“I have EVO Online today…”
“Oh great…more video game crap! We have to go grocery shopping.”
“Oh great…more crap I hate to do!”
(She smacks me upside my head.)
“Are we going to be back by 1pm…cuz that’s when it starts.”
“We should be if you get your butt out of bed now…”
I do…we go…GROCERY SHOPPING! (yay)
Two and a half hours later, I’m back home and the milk, bread, and 4500 other things we purchased are in the house and put away.
Time for some EVO Online!
“WOOT!”
I log in to Galaxy4Gamers.com, click the Live Streams button and settle in for an afternoon of SSFIV competition.
Competition is what I wanted and competition is what I got!
The event opens up with the commentary of James Chen and UltraDavid. Sporting some rather nifty ties, the two give us a rundown on the top 16 finalists. They then inform us that the sole winner of the event will receive a FREE TRIP to EVO 2011 and an exclusive online title.
The first round, of this single elimination tournament gave us Vermilli0n (aka Mike Ross) and his E.Honda vs Lazy922 and his Guile. After some back and forth in the early part of the match, it was Mike Ross who took it and moved on to round 2 of the finals.
Next were MarlinPie vs RandomRJ. Out of the nine rounds played, RandomRJ only dropped 3, moving him and his Fei Long on, knocking MarlinPie out for the day. This was a bit of an upset as MarlinPie was the favorite to win this match up. He currently holds the number 4 position on Galaxy4Gamers.com leader board. We hope MarlinPie finds his way to EVO 2011.
Tatsukjinken and BigFleccs went head to head next and while BigFlecc’s Bison came out hard, in the end, it was Tatsu’s Vega who was a little like Beowulf against Grendel, heroically carving himself a victory in match 3 to move himself on.
Matchup number 4 was uruseii and his long legged Sakura against F8less and his Sagat. Sagat didin’t have what it takes to knock the little girl down, so in game 3, F8less tried to catch up by switching to Adon. At first it looked like this was a good move, for he took round 1. However, uruseii took himself and his Sakura on up the bracket, by taking rounds 2 and 3, giving him 3-0 victory.
CHUCKYSRK (aka crizzle) and his Viper dominated Ken, who was driven by lilsicx66 in the next 3-1 match, as did Hug101, who swept Foxisquick 3-0 with his version of M. Bison. RED RANGER and ghettoperu went at it in match number 7. With RED RANGER taking games 1 and 2 and putting up two PERFECTS on the board, the match was all but over for ghettoperu. However, ghettoperu must have had a talk with his Balrog during the short break between games 2 and 3, because after that he didn’t miss a beat and came back winning the match 3-2 over RED RANGER. Impressive comeback indeed. Sorry RED, we still love you and hope you remain on the G4G leader board for quite some time!
As James Chen and UltraDavid had some fun with numbers over the usernames jewelman444 and dudeman5566, the two players started their battle. Jewelman444 came out strong and although it’s not really nice to say, he ran right over dudeman5566′s Balrog, (sorry dudeman) sweeping the match 3-0, without losing a single round. Part of his victory came by way of some serious Honda Handslapping. The back to back combos drew some attention from Mr Chen, which did raise some concern about fair game play. We’ll get back to that in a minute…or two. Jewelman444 did advance to round 2.
So…after the first round of play, we were left with:
Vermilli0n (aka Mike Ross) vs RandomRj
Tatusujinken vs uruseii
CHUCKYSRK (aka crizzle) vs Hugo101
ghettoperu vs jewelman444
Some of the favorites to move on to the semi final were Tatsujinke, CHUCKYSRK, and Vermilli0n.
Round two started out as a tug of war between Mike Ross and RandomRJ. In the end, it was the favorite, Mike Ross who would move on.
Even though Tatsujinken managed to grab a PERFECT in round 1 of game 3, sadly, the expected advance for him was just not going to happen. Uruseii and his Sakura proved that neither one of them is a lower tier character, by taking the macth 3-2, in what was, in my opinion, one of the best battles we saw all day.
Hugo101 also pulled off an upset over CHUCKYSRK with a 3-2 win. This was another one that came down to the wire. We even got to see some character changes from both players. CHUCKYSRK’s Viper was replaced by Zangief, after losing round 1 and 2, and then Hugo101′s Bison was benched for Sagat in game 5, after dropping both games 3 and 4! Exciting to say the least. Just about the, my wife hollered that dinner was ready and when I told her I couldn’t come up to eat at the moment, she took the time to walk downstairs into my mancave and smack me upside my head again. I suppose it was worth it though. The day’s competition kept me on the edge of my seat all afternoon! …Anyway…Game 5 of that match ended up a 2-1 win for Hugo101, movinig him on to the semifinal.
During a short break in the action, it was decided that Jewelman444 was NOT committing any mischief. Before the final match in round 2, Jewelman444, received not only an apology from James Chen, who thought he may have been using turbo, but he also got some mad props from the commentator, for his completely sick Honda Handslapping combos! My hat goes off to Mr. Chen for not only making sure things were on the up and up during gameplay, but for taking the time to make things right when his accusation turned out to be false. In my book, that makes you Sir Chen, a class act.
With that said, the match began and ghettoperu quickly discovered what all the fuss was about. Jewelman444 laid down another “Flawless Victory” (wait…isn’t that from another fighting game? pffffffff…my bad), by not losing a single round in 3 games. This of course put Jewelman444 into the semifinal. Well done Jewelman444!
…A bit hungry, I went upstairs and grabbed a quick bite to eat, satisfying my belly and making things right with my lady. I then hurried back down stairs to my computer and got comfy again. Looking at the newly updated tourney bracket, I found out that in the semi final, things looked like this:
Vermilli0n vs uruseii
Hugo101 vs Jewelman444
Getting on with things, Mike Ross seemed to be a bit nervous about his foe, Sakura. Even though his Honda took round 1 in game 1, he ended up losing the first game as the skinny little girl took out his fatman, 2-1. Then, somewhere between game 1 and game 2, Mike settled in with his Honda and beat down poor Sakura, eliminating uruseii, by winning every round of the next 3 games. You know what that means…Mike Ross moves on to the final!
I remember thinking at that time, “Time out! Hold on one second!…This means that if Jewleman444, who also plays with Honda wins his match against Hugo101, we could be looking at a mirror match in the final!” Our commentators for this event, also noticed this possibility and made mention of how most SSFIV players don’t particularly care for these kind of match ups.
Unfortunately for Hugo101, that is exactly what was to be. Even though he gave Jewelman444 his first loss of the day in game 1, round 2, he would only take 2 more rounds in the match up. Despite an effort to shake things ups, with two character changes, Hugo101 went down 3-0 vs Jewelman444 and his Honda.
Before we move on the finale of EVO Online SSFIV PSN, I would like to personally congratulate each and every player who made it to the finals. Getting this far was a great accomplishment in itself..so
CONGRATULATIONS to:
Vermilli0n
Lazy922
MarlinPie
RandomRJ
Tatsujinken
BigFleccs
uruseii
F8less
CHUCKYSRK
lilsicx66
Hugo101
Foxisquick
ghettoperu
RED RANGER
dudeman5566
Jewelman444
Each and every match, game, and round that played out in this contest, was more than worth watching and made EVO Online what it was. Spectacular.
I’m guessing that some of you may already know who is going on to EVO 2011 for FREE, and some of you don’t. Either way, it really doesn’t matter, because I’m not going to tell you! It is once again time for dinner, and my wife cooked for me, again. Since I don’t feel like getting smacked upside the head anymore this week, you can see for yourself. Thanks for reading and goodbye for now. But before I go, I leave you with the video of the Final EVO Online PSN Match between:
Mike Ross (aka Vermilli0n) and Adam Jewel (aka Jewelman444)
…enjoy, FIVE

If you ever thought the writers of the movie, “Blood Sport,” with Jean Claude Van Dam based it on Frank Dux’s entering the Kumite, you have been fed a bag of lies. The real truth is it was based upon my life and my unbeatable skills. Back then, my gaming style was too new and too hardcore for the general audience. So the writers changed it to fighting so it would be more acceptable and because of the success of Rocky. Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds like I am giving you a load of crap, but there is a real tradition that exists in the underground streets of the video game world. This tradition caused my departure.
Rather than a glorious tale of magic, witchcraft, and dragons; I feel I owe an explanation to our G4G Members why I was gone. In order to understand my hiatus, you must first understand the perilous side of our gaming traditions. There are several principles that define our hidden culture and existence. Most important, we adhere to them at all costs. 1) Never say no to a video game challenge 2) Never say yes to candy from a grown man with no pants 3) You must game to the death. Yeah, rule #1 seems kind of crazy especially when you read rule #3. Let me ask you, Have you ever played Guitar Hero? Have you ever been hit with a Ninja star while playing Guitar Hero? Big Difference! Besides that, rule #2, I was like woe – where did that come from? Who says no to candy?
So the story goes, my old Master Ata Ri at the Nin Ten Dojo was killed in a gaming duel by my arch nemesis, Master Chae Ting. Ting is very resourceful: uses glitches, disconnects his router, and powers down right when he is about to lose. Apparently he used a smoke attack and Master Ata Ri became light headed and had a insatiable need for funyons and a pudding pop and was unable to focus. All of a sudden, Master Ri fell down in a coughing attack and choked on a funyon. So I flew back to avenge his death.
The duel: I challenged Ting to Modern Warfare 2. The game was new and I figured he wouldn’t have too many tricks up his sleeve. We went to my old Nin Ten Dojo and during the first round, I hit him with a flash bang that I got from Tiajuana. No joke, a real flash bang, He sounded like Tattoo from Fantasy Island and was like, “ahhh, The pain, the pain.” I was like, “should have been wearing sunglasses b**ch, now f*** yo’ couch!” Then from nowhere, the power goes out and there was dead silence. When the light come back on, he was gone. Master Chae Ting is a sneaky, but we will meet again and I will be prepared for his tricks next time.
Sincerely,
Master GaeMing

Check out young Jacob’s reaction when he’s told it’s time to turn off a game of his Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox. For us gamers, there is nothing more important than playing our brand new video game with our friends. How could anyone be so cruel? Don’t they know its dangerous to disrespect a skilled sniper?!

Comic-Con Convention
July 23-26,2009
San Diego, CA
WOW! And I don’t mean “World of Warcraft.” I’m talking about the only expression that truly captures the zeitgeist of Comic-Con. I knew I’d see the typical Star Wars Characters, like several Princess Leias (all of whom were hotter than a summer afternoon on Tatooine), and Boba Fetts (self explanatory), but I didn’t expect to see so many video game and new movie characters. There were several Master Chief Petty Officer John-117s, and a few Cobras and Snake Eyes (PLEASE don’t make the mistake of mixing these two up…even GI Joe can’t save you if you do), and of course a Joker or two.
Did people realize how hot it would be? Bender from Futurama probably had a heat stroke, while the Michael Jackson wannabe was having a different type of stroke when some of the younger gamers walked by (too soon?).
In the middle of all this madness was the Galaxy4Gamers street team. We posted-up on several corners and spread the good word to the masses. At last there is a video game site that allows you to put your money where your mouth is. Think you’re the best at Halo? Prove it. Think anyone who uses grenades in Call of Duty is a frag-fag? Set up your own specific game rules before each tournament.
We signed up hundreds of soon-to-be professional gamers, and handed out thousands of dollars worth of free merchandise to our favorite type of crowd: the Comic-Con CyberAthletes and CyberSoldiers! So thanks for making Comic-Con a success on yet another front, and we look forward to seeing you online at Galaxy4Gamers.com!
Remember, if you enter the special promotional code “ComicCon” when you sign up, you are eligible for special bonuses including $5 in your account and the “Original Gamester” (OG) status for the first few months, for FREE!
Also remember to look for your pictures up on our site from the Comic-Con convention!

Is this the longest game name ever?
by Ben Silverman
July 14 11:32 A.M.
Call it HIOPB!WDIDTDT? for short.
Why? Because calling this new PSP strategy game by its full name might give you a migraine. Excedrin in hand, here goes:
Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This?
A game with a name too long for this caption
Clocking in at a whopping 64 characters (with spaces), HIOPB!WDIDTDT? is a port of a cult-hit Japanese game that tasks players with defending an evil underground lair from an invading force of heroes. Its wordy title, however, is just another feather in the cap for quirky game publisher NIS America, who’s also responsible for titular absurdities like Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? and Spectral Souls – Resurrection of the Ethereal Empires. Editors? Who needs ‘em!
So is HIOPB!WDIDTDT (phew!) the longest game name ever? Not by a, uh, long shot. Though the record-keepers at Guinness have yet to include this as an official category, here are some of our favorite contenders:
Note: U.S. releases only.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam (43 characters)
At only 43 characters this barely deserves a mention, but we’re giving it bonus points for pulling off the rare ‘Gundam’ trifecta. Which, incidentally, is three times too many.
GOLF Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples (59 characters)
From the TMI file comes this wordy jock, which would have made a serious run at the leaderboard if the developers only had the foresight to spell out “Thirty-Six.” Still, better than par.
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (62 characters)
Now we’re cooking with grease. One name, six nouns!
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army (73 characters)
Q: How many colons does it take to screw in an absurdly long game title? A: Two.
Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals (76 characters)
One of the better entries in the Leisure Suit Larry series, this alliterative adventure game is a magniloquent masterpiece.
The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II: The Rise of the Witch-king (81 characters)
Not quite the one who rules them all, but darn close. Known in IM circles as simply TLOTRTBFME2TROTWK, this solid expansion is the Frodo Baggins of video game names — it just doesn’t know when to quit.
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People: Episode 4: Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective (95 characters)
Leave it to web sensation Strong Bad to take home the unofficial trophy. At just shy of an obscene 100 characters, the title is nearly as ruthless as the grumpy masked hero himself.

Video game timer knows when to quit
by Ben Silverman
Buzz up!
Can’t seem to get your kids to stop playing games? A 79-year-old Minnesota man is banking on it.
John Morrisey’s invention, the GameDr, is making headlines as a potentially useful tool for parents sick of arguing with kids over play time.
The device is essentially a fancy version of a cooking timer. Parents simply program in a certain number of minutes or hours, at which time the password-protected GameDr shuts off power to the console entirely. Since it connects to your console’s power cord, it can work with pretty much any system on the market.
Sound dogmatic? Surprisingly, Morrisey is hardly the anti-game grump you might expect.
GameDr gaming timer
Inventor John Morrissey lends parents a helping hand.
“Video games are great,” he said. “There is evidence that they improve the reflexes and the thinking process. But right now, for many parents, the option is all or nothing — they either let the kids play the video game or they take it away for two weeks.”
But even Digital Innovations, the company selling Morrisey’s invention, are aware that not everyone will be behind the new tech.
“There are moms who say they love this, and that they know 10 people who need one,” said marketing director Kara Lineal. “And there are gamers who say it’s terrible and that parents should just monitor their kids.”
Some have also pointed out that the device isn’t without some significant flaws. Gaming blog Gamepolitics points out that cagey kids can circumvent the GameDr by using a spare power cord, and so far, similar devices, like Hopscotch Technology’s BOB, have failed to catch on.
So what do you think? Is the GameDr the perfect prescription or a total quack?

The $17,500 video game
by Mike Smith
Buzz up!
July 6 1:32 P.M.
Would you pay $17,500 for this?
Think $60 video games are too expensive? You won’t hear any argument from us, but you might from JJ Hendricks, a collector who just paid a clinically insane $17,500 for an obscure NES game from 1990.
The game in question is an ultra-rare, gold-colored version of Nintendo World Championships, a cartridge specially produced for use in a Nintendo-sponsored gaming contest. According to Wikipedia only 26 were created, and Hendricks calls it the “Holy Grail” of video game collectors.
The game itself has a time limit of just 6 minutes and 21 seconds and consists of three short segments from other NES games: Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and Rad Racer. Players are scored according to their performance in each game, and their scores are totaled once the time limit expires. Doesn’t sound too riveting to us, but then somehow we doubt Hendricks is in it for the gameplay.
And while $17,500 might seem a bit much for a collection of ones and zeroes, Hendricks actually got a bargain: the game was originally listed on eBay for a cool $25,000.
